The Stigma

There's a stigma about struggles

It's like we're not supposed to talk about them

We're not supposed to share

Because if we do, we'll be seen as weak

As if admitting that we're struggling

Is the same as admitting that we're failures

But the truth is, everyone struggles sometimes

And it's nothing to be ashamed of

The stigma of mental health is alive

And well in our society

Too many people are ashamed

To talk about their problems

They feel like they're all alone

Fighting a battle that no one understands

Mental health is just as important

As physical health, but too often

It's ignored or dismissed

We need to break the silence

And start talking about mental health

There are many stigmas we battle

Each and every day

They can be about our looks,

Our race or our creed

Sometimes they're about our sexuality

Or the way we dress

But we don't let them get us down

We keep on fighting

For who we are and what we believe

And we don't give up without a fight

The stigmas can try to hold us back

But we'll never let them win

We'll keep on standing tall and proud

And we'll never give in

It's hard enough to battle the illness

But harder still when people judge you

They don't understand the pain you're in

And they don't know what you're going through

They see your weakness and they make fun

They think that you're just a pathetic case

But you have to keep on fighting

You can't let them beat you down

There's already enough stigma in the world

Enough hatred and discrimination

You don't need it from your own kind

You don't need their judgement and their scorn
